Arsenal are expected to sell Charlie Patino during the summer transfer window.
When the midfielder broke onto the scene in December 2021, he immediately demonstrated his ability with a goal in an FA Cup tie against Sunderland.
However, instead of becoming a mainstay in Mikel Arteta's side over time, the youngster has found himself loaned out to Championship clubs. In seasons with Blackpool and Swansea City respectively, Patino made a total of 41 first and 24 substitute appearances in the second tier of English football.
Nevertheless, the 20-year-old has been out of Swansea's starting line-up for much of the year, not playing more than 57 minutes in a game since January 25. This, of course, casts doubt on whether he will justify his reintegration into Arsenal's ranks.
According to the “Evening Standard”, the Gunners are set to sign the England international for the Under-21s at the end of the season.
Patino has just one year left on his contract, with the club's managers seemingly preferring to improve their financial situation rather than extend his stay in the team.
Clubs in Spain have already sharpened their teeth, and the fact that Patino holds a Spanish passport, which eliminates a number of organizational problems, makes him even more palatable to the Iberian teams.
Although Patino has no experience in Spanish football, his style of play has been compared to former Arsenal and Spain players Cesc Fabregas and Santi Cazorla.
Arteta must also make decisions on other players who have a real possibility of leaving the Emirates Stadium.
Thomas Partey recently returned to action for five games after a lengthy injury lay-off but the Ghana international has just over a year left on his contract.
There is a chance that Jorginho's contract will be extended after the end of the current campaign, but it is unclear whether the 32-year-old will remain in Arteta's squad.
Mohamed Elneny has not played since February 24 and looks very likely to leave Arsenal when his contract expires in the summer.
